CHAPTER 6: unexpected events
*ring ring*
Derek's cellphone just rang.
"Um, what was that?" inquired Denise.
"Nothing! Nothing at all!" Derek said frantically as he tried to silence his phone.
*ring ring*
"There it goes again."
"Um... Uhhh..." Derek reached into his pocket to retrieve his cellphone, showed it to Denise feeling stupid.
*ring ring*
"Answer it! It may be an emergency" Denise said.
"Okay..." Derek pressed the answer button.... "Hello?"
"DEREK!" a loud, irritating shrill came resonating out of the phone.
"Mom?" Derek said.
"Mom?" Denise repeated.
"Yes, who was that?" The voice said from the phone.
"Mom, why did you call?" Derek excused himself from Denise and walked to a nearby tree out of earshot.
After a few minutes, "Denise, I'm so sorry, i guess i forgot to turn off my phone, im so sorry..."
"It's alright, look.." Denise pointed at the table, "Raoul just served dinner, come on, lets eat."
"Umm, okay.." Derek said with disappointment. He had come so close to kiss a beautiful girl and yet.... Due to his mother's interferance, he had come empty handed.
For dinner, Raoul served steak with mashed potatoes and salad. He served wine and for dessert he had served chocolate mousse. Overall the dinner deserved a 5/5. The service was also flawless. Raoul was indeed a first class waiter. But still, Denise seemed unsatisfied. She seemed lost in thought for that matter. Derek noticed this and thought she had a problem.
"Denise, is anything the matter?" Derek asked after he took a sip from his wine glass.
"No, it's nothing."
"Come on, tell me."
"I said it's nothing!" she said angrily.
"Okay.... Im sorry..." he said felling small.
"Oh, im sorry, i didnt mean to shout. Come on, lets take a walk by the beach, i think i just need some fresh air."
"Sure."
Denise remained quiet during the walk.
"So, what's really the matter?"
"Huh?"
"You seemed preoccupied, is there a problem?"
"......"
"See! There is a problem! Was it the food? Was it the call from my mom? Was it Raoul? Was it the way i dressed? Do i smell, does my breath smell?" Derek said quickly and quite worried.
"Derek, Derek!!
"Was it the dessert? i thought it was too sweet, i ll tell Raoul. Was it..."
"DEREK!!! Stop, it was none of those."
"Oh, so what is it then? Wait for a moment..."
Derek paused to catch a breath, he talked so quick the he actually forgot to breathe.
"Okay, shoot!" Derek said softly.
"I can't tell you..."
"Why?"
"It's just.... I cant..."
"Come on! Tell me..."
"Fine..."
"I promise, ill help."
"Okay.."
"Ill do whatever i can to make it better, please tell me!"
"Derek! Breathe again! i already told you i will!"
"Oh..."
"Derek, the problem is...."
